Former No. 2 NFL Draft Pick Possessed Over $120K Worth of Drugs, Police Say

A former No. 2 overall NFL draft pick was recently found in possession of over $120,000 worth of suspected narcotics, according to police.

Gregory Keith Robinson, who was taken by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL draft, was arrested on February 7, according to the City of Thibodaux Police Department in Louisiana.

The arrest on Monday comes after Robinson was jailed in Texas in 2020 by U.S. Border Patrol Agents for marijuana possession, according to The El Paso Times.

On Monday, at around 12 a.m. local time, the City of Thibodaux Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop after a 2021 Black Cadillac Escalade violated a traffic law near the 100 block of E. Bayou Road.

“Officers made contact with the driver identified as Gregory Robinson,” the Thibodaux Police Department said in a press release.

The Thibodaux Police Department said that during the traffic stop, a police K-9 was alerted by the scent of narcotics within the vehicle, prompting officers to conduct a further search.

“This search resulted in the findings of suspected cocaine, suspected crack cocaine, suspected oxycodone, suspected hydrocodone, suspected Xanax and suspected marijuana,” the press release said.

Following the search of the vehicle and the discovery of the suspected narcotics, the Thibodaux Police Department’s Narcotics Division and members of the Department’s Immediate Response Team obtained search warrants at several properties owned by Robinson “inside the City Limits of Thibodaux.”

During the search of Robinson’s properties, police discovered “suspected methamphetamine, additional suspected cocaine and marijuana, as well as packaging equipment and multiple assets.”

According to police, approximately $120,810 worth of suspected narcotics were seized from Robinson’s vehicle and properties. The seizure included over three pounds of suspected methamphetamine, nearly 40 pounds of marijuana, 227 doses of suspected hydrocodone and 48 doses of alleged oxycodone. Several other narcotics, such as cocaine and alprazolam (Xanax) were also seized.

Robinson was charged with two counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine; possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine; two counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana; possession with intent to distribute Xanax; and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to police.

“Mr. Robinson was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex, where he remains on a $315,000.00 bond,” police said in the press release.

This is not the first time Robinson has been arrested for possession of narcotics, as he faced a similar situation in 2020 when he was stopped by Border Patrol agents for possession of marijuana. According to the El Paso Times, Robinson allegedly possessed 157 pounds and was arrested while in Texas, while traveling from California to Louisiana.

After being drafted number two overall in 2014, Robinson went on to spend two seasons with the St. Louis Rams as an offensive tackle. Robinson then went on to play with the Detroit Lions and the Cleveland Browns, before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

Newsweek reached out to the Thibodaux Police Department for further comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
